Some long ridiculous post that involve me sobbing and telling you about my life and art comin’ up so ye
The First Image
The first drawing is of my character Cacao Vannordt (Pronounced ka-KOW van-NOR-dt) in an alternate universe where he never met Andre Mazzini. (Paper's gorgeous model character) Because he has no one to really distract him and convince him to spend time on himself, he spreads himself far too thin. (He is a member of a Charity band that plays in english and spanish speaking countries, a member of the hit band POP!, and co-runs the kitchen of a five star restaurant.) After about 2 years, (The day of the anniversary of his break up with the guy he ended up with instead, who verbally abused him near constantly. The unnamed man broke up with him after Cacao tried to stand up for himself.) he finally snaps and carves out his eye. His cousin, Coco Le'blanque, proceeds to put him in a mental institution and visits him daily, hoping her best friend will come back.
Why I drew it:
To be honest I haven’t drawn Cacao in a loooooong time, and it makes me sad, because Cacao was, if I remember correctly, the first of my characters that my senpai REALLY liked. She enjoyed some designs of the others (I still have the drawings! :3) but this is the first one that she actually knew a lot about. He’s very well rounded considering how little planning has gone into him because of the fact that he is MADE to interact with Andre. (He existed before that, but really only because I wanted a gay boy band ok) And the drawing actually started out that I was gonna draw Butter for the assignment since it said ANY character, but if my school grades it and displays it there will be no way to credit her and I didn’t want to do that. (Hence why all my art homework is of my own characters, unless the assignment requires otherwise.) That is why he’s wearing boots in an insane asylum. Ok? Ok. Now why did I have him carve out his eye? Simple. I WANTED TO DRAW MORE EYEPATCHES EHEHEHEHEHEHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA
The Second Image
This is GOING to be the teen versions Paper's gorgeous and adorable characters, Bitter and Butter Velvetinne! If you don't know about them, I WILL FANGIRL JUST SEND ME AN ASK OR BETTER YET SEND PAPER AN ASK THEY'RE KAWAII AS FUCK OK. Anyways, I was listening to the Paraparappa soundtrack (not my favorite) before I went to go listen to some UmJammer Lammy music, and I was surfing the blog during class break, AND THEN IT HIT ME. I CAN MIX MY FAVORITE VIDEO GAME WITH ONE OF MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS. I WANTED IT REAL BAD.
Why I drew it:
But of course senpai hasn’t heard of the game, so the burden has fallen on me to CREATE SOME ART FOR IT. There will be two, one in an ATTEMPT at UmJammer Lammy’s style, and this one, in my own style. Most of it is just tests of my knowledge of general anatomy, so any critiques of this last one are TOTALLY WELCOME. Like I said, this is just a test and is no where near the completed piece. (I’ve actually redrawn this twice already, correcting and improving details on the clothing on Butter.)
***Bonus: The Process***
Ok, so this is the only one I did anything special for. While none of these drawings have been referenced, (The hands are all freehanded, pun TOTALLY INTENDED.) this drawing started out completely as geometric shapes. (Except the back hand, which was to small to do the same, so I ended up drawing it big on a scar piece of paper and then referencing that.) I drew Butter (Left) first, because I’ve also been trying to work from right to left, since I am right-handed. This makes it look a little more proportional, or at least I think so. Plus less smudges. With the basic body shape down I traced a mirrored version of the pose so that it came out like this. Because I never would have gotten both of them posed right, let’s be honest. I have to start with the head to draw something right. Working on it. But I liked the concept and the pose too much, SO I CAVED. I USED MY LIGHT TABLE AND THERE IS NO SHAME IN THAT. I will probably used the light table for the next few sketch layers, and I will DEFINITELY be using it for the color layer. Anyways, this is a good stopping point to show you guys, because it shows my base body shape, as well as how a drawing changes as I switch to the sketch layer. YE I DRAW THE BEGINNING OF COLLAR BONES AND BULGES IT’S IMPORTANT. Also that’s how I start faces. I draw a circle, then a line for the middle of the face, then the chin and ear. Also fun fact this picture doesn’t have boots because I took the picture before I knew what type of shoes they wear. From this point I have a little bit more details, like the stripes on Butter’s vest, and the buttons, THE FREAKIN BOOTS, and anything else I might have missed. Once I finish that I’m going to retrace it onto cleaner paper and begin sketching out Bitters clothing, using Butter’s as a base with some variations on shape and the way the fabric falls. I’m trying to see which digital techniques I can apply to traditional art, and visa versa. When all’s said and done, I might come back to it later and do it digitally as well. Assuming I ever finish my to do list, which I have been careful not to add to, ahahaha. C:
TL;DR This is basically a post of some of my most recent arts and full bodies of my style, as well as me telling my senpai I really enjoy her art and characters ok
I draw Butter when I need to relax because FUCKING TESSELLATIONS I SPENT 5 HOURS ON THAT SHIT AND STILL DIDN’T FINISH AND I FUCKED UP FOUR TIME ALREADY.
Also sorry I can’t put read mores on image posts gomen
Also don’t worry paper I’ll have a much longer post with the finished version, and there will be a photo set of both the finished versions too, if it turns out well. C:
ANYWAYS ENJOY EVERYONE
